At ERFSC, we want to ensure that people 60 years and older have the opportunity to age in place. The variety of services available to seniors living in Wards 7 and 8 provide opportunities for recreation, socialization, and nutrition. Our Senior Connections program provides a healthy quality of life that affords seniors independence during their golden years.

East of the River Regional
Senior Socialization Hub

The hub’s mission is to ensure that seniors living East of the River in Wards 7 and 9 are aware of/and receive services in an inclusive and welcoming environment. The services help decrease isolation, improve nutrition, food access, and promote physical and recreational activities.

ERFSC operates the East of the River Regional Socialization Hub with oversight from the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL).

Deaf and Hard of
Hearing

We provide specialized equipment for residents who are deaf, hard of hearing, and experience hearing loss.

Funded by the Department of Disability Services, this program gives us the opportunity to provide hearing aids, personal sound amplifiers, bed shakers, and more—free of charge. For senior residents, we offer care coordination, heavy house cleaning, intake and data entry, socialization calls, and EPD waivers.

Friendship Cafes

The Friendship Cafes offer a place where seniors can socialize, engage in activities, and decrease isolation and loneliness. They are funded by the Department of Aging and Community Living.

Washington Seniors
Wellness Center
(WSWC)

Since 1985, WSWC has been improving the lives of Washington DC’s senior residents through health promotion programs that increase health promotion and provide a space for recreation and socialization, while assisting all members to age in place and enhance community engagement. Our programs and community partners provide seniors access to health, economic security, social engagement, purpose, creativity, mobility, and nutrition—all in a social and fun environment. WSWC believes every person deserves to age well.

WSWC is located at WSWC, in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Ward 7.

The Congress
Heights Senior Wellness
Center
(CHSWC)

Located in Ward 8, the CHSWC is designed to help seniors continue living boldly by taking charge of their health, wellness, and social life. The CHSWC offers a variety of classes and programs that address wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention, including nutrition, exercise, reflexology, support groups, and creative arts. This center is managed by the Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative.

CHWC is located at 3500 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE.

New Communities

This program provides support to youth and seniors living in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Ward 7. This program is funded by the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.

This was a very elegant event for the seniors. To this day, they are still talking about the ambiance and the food. The presentations about healthy eating and diabetes prevention were very knowledgeable. I learned more about diabetes than I knew.
