Special Projects
Fatherhood Initiative
Federally funded program to promote responsible parenting and strengthen fathers’ relationships with their children. This initiative includes 3 program areas: WatchDOGS – school volunteering program; Quenching the Father’s Thirst – fathering support group; and Case Management – intensive service and support program.

New Communities Initiative (DHS/HCP)
This program area provides comprehensive, strengths-based, home based, case management services to eligible single residents and heads of households and their families in the Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings. Services are to help families become more self-sufficient, thrive economically and become better community members.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Tax Campaign (Annie E. Casey Foundation)
This program primarily focuses on increasing families’ household income and building economic success through linkages to employment, career trainings/educational opportunities, and the attainment of various assets including financial services.

The Targeted Neighborhood Initiative
This program is supported and funded in part by the DC Child and Family Service Agency (CFSA). The purpose of this program is to create educational awareness and provide services to communities with high reported incidents of child abuse and neglect, with a view to reducing the high rates and incidents in those communities. As part of these initiatives, two other Collaborative organizations - Edgewood Brookland Family Strengthening Collaborative and Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, as well as representatives from CFSA participate in programs at the Prevent Institute at the University of North Carolina Chapel to develop strategies for the targeted communities. This project is supported and coordinated by the Healthy Families Thriving Communities Collaborative Council.

ERFSC Training and Professional Development Institute
The East River Family Strengthening Collaborative Training and Professional Development Institute opened in January 2009. The Institute provides developmental training opportunities to Human Services Professionals and Para-professionals. During the second quarter of 2009 we featured two (2) workshops: “Best Practices for Engaging Fathers” (April 27 and 28, 2009); and “Social Work Ethics in Supervision and Clinical Practice” (May 19, 2009). All workshops are facilitated by professionals in their field and each workshop is Continuing Education Credit Certified by the National Association of Social Workers. Visit the National Association of Social Work Website (www.nabsw.org) for upcoming workshops.
